The W.I. Dykes Library at the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) is a full-service research library open to students, faculty, alumni, and visitors. Whether you need a quiet study room, a hard-to-find journal article, or hands-on help from a librarian, this place has you covered.
The library offers one-stop searching through OneSearch, plus browsing by journal category or database subject and type. Students can look up course reserve materials by instructor name or course number. Faculty can submit course reserve requests. Everyone can book study rooms, request interlibrary loans, and tap into research guides built around specific subjects. The University Archives holds special collections, a digital archive, a historical timeline, and even a campus walking tour. Alumni and visitors have their own information section too.
Start with OneSearch or the subject-based database finder to locate articles, books, or journals for your topic. If your course instructor has put materials on reserve, search by their name or your course number. Stuck on a source or citation? Chat with a librarian right from the website or call the desks listed below. Need a book UHD doesn't own? Submit an interlibrary loan request and they'll track it down for you. Planning to visit? If you are a Houston Community College student or attend another area school, ask your own library about reciprocal borrowing agreements. Many Houston-area public libraries, including Houston Public Library, also offer free database access with a library card.
Good research starts with good tools. Dykes Library gives you access to thousands of databases, digital archives, and special collections you won't find through a basic web search. It also connects you to materials from other libraries when UHD doesn't have what you need.
