"Houston's LGBTQ+ community deserves care providers and workplaces that truly understand them. This Institute gives professionals practical, evidence-based tools to close that gap. The Montrose Center has 48 years of direct service experience and has held Joint Commission Accreditation since 2003, so the training comes from people who do this work every day."
The Montrose Center Training Institute brings nearly five decades of Houston experience to professional education on LGBTQ+ health, behavioral health, and workplace inclusion. Whether you want a new certification, affordable continuing education credits, or customized team training, the Institute has a path for you.
The Training Institute offers several types of programs. Peer Specialist Trainings prepare you to become a Recovery Coach Peer Specialist (RCPS) or a Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS), supporting people through recovery. Certified Public Health Worker (CPHW) training gives healthcare professionals a recognized credential for serving diverse communities. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) let licensed social workers, counselors, and community health professionals meet their renewal requirements affordably. CEU-eligible credentials include LMSW, LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LCDC, MSW, BSW, RSPS, MHPS, and CHW. Note: CEUs are not currently available for physicians, nurses, or other medical licensures. Workplace Inclusion and Corporate Ally Training offer custom programs for teams and businesses. A broad catalog of workshop topics covers LGBTQ+ 101 and 102, mental health, youth allyship, HIV and STIs, domestic violence, and more. Starting in late 2026, a full certificate program in LGBTQ+ cultural competency will also be available.
Use the open enrollment course calendar on the Training Institute page to find upcoming sessions. If you are looking for team or organizational training, reach out directly to discuss a custom program. For CEU questions, confirm your credential type matches the approved list before enrolling.
