Harris County Precinct 4 parks are open to everyone, but a few key rules help keep them safe and enjoyable for all neighbors. Know what to bring, what to leave home, and how to book a space before your visit.
Precinct 4 parks have rules covering leashes, prohibited items, dog park use, and reservations. Dogs must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet at all times outside the dog park. Alcohol, fireworks, glass containers, drones, metal detectors, off-road vehicles, and loud speakers are all prohibited unless you have special permission. Open flames are fine in BBQ pits and camp stoves. Fishing is allowed in designated spots under Texas state rules, and horses are welcome in designated equestrian areas. Dog parks have extra requirements: dogs must be at least four months old, up to date on vaccines, and wearing license tags. You may bring no more than two dogs per person. Children under nine must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian in the dog park. Any dog showing aggressive behavior must be removed right away. If you want to host a special event or use portable play equipment like a moonwalk, you need prior approval.
Before your visit, check which rules apply to your plans. If you want to reserve a pavilion, host an event, or use portable play equipment, contact the Parks Reservation Office in advance — either online or by phone. On the day of your visit, pack accordingly: skip the glass containers and alcohol unless your rental agreement covers it, and bring a leash for every dog. At the dog park, bring waste bags (they also have them at pet stations), keep your dog in sight, and leash up when entering and exiting. If you see an aggressive dog or have a service concern, call the parks line right away.
