Neighborhood Ready is a 90-minute preparedness class led by a community member — not a government official. It covers four core areas: making an emergency plan, building a supply kit, knowing your neighbors, and staying informed about local hazards. Classes are scheduled at times that work for your group, or you can join one already happening in the region. Community leaders who want to host a session can request a free kit that includes a facilitator guide, a DVD of Ready Houston preparedness videos, 20 discussion guides, 20 notepads, 20 pens, and 20 safety lights. A free participant workbook — available in English and Spanish — gives attendees templates to build their own plan.
If you want to attend, reach out to Ready Houston to find a class near you or ask about upcoming scheduled sessions. If you want to lead a session for your block, neighborhood association, faith community, or civic group, fill out the online form to request your free kit. Allow up to two weeks for delivery. Once your kit arrives, use the facilitator guide to shape the presentation for your specific audience. Share your own real experiences with emergency situations — and invite your group to do the same. After your meeting, fill out and return the included postcard so Ready Houston can track reach and improve the program.
