"Arts and culture have always helped move social movements forward. This group believes that when artists, organizers, and community members work side by side, they can make a bigger difference than any one group working alone. It's about combining creativity with community power."
Houston in Action's Cultural Organizing Working Group brings together arts, culture, and community organizing to advance social justice. The group convenes organizations and community members to set shared priorities, coordinate action items, and build coalitions. Work may include building relationships with elected officials, government agencies, business owners, and community activists toward common goals.
Cultural Organizing
Arts & culture push movements forward.
Cultural Organizing is defined as the intersection of arts, culture, and community organizing - and we believe that merging all of these groups together can and will advance social justice.
Convening relevant organizations & community stakeholders, facilitating the creation of Cultural Organizing priorities determined by members, coordinating action items towards accomplishing group goal(s).
Coalition-building towards a common goal, potentially: relationship-building with elected officials, government entities, business owners & community activists
