Alexander Deussen Park is a free, 309-acre Harris County park hugging the south shore of Lake Houston. Whether you want to launch a boat, cast a line, let the kids run wild on a playground, or take a peaceful walk, this park has room for all of it.
The park offers two boat launches and a renovated T-Pier for docking, plus fishing piers and shoreline spots. Five playgrounds are spread across the grounds. Fourteen pavilions of various sizes come equipped with BBQ grills, picnic tables, restrooms, and parking. Four trail systems wind through the park for walking and jogging. On-site you will also find a Senior Center and a community center with programs and facilities.
Pick your activity and plan around the seasonal hours. If you want a pavilion for a family gathering, reserve one in advance through the Harris County Precinct One Community Portal — pavilions fill up fast on Houston weekends. Boaters should review the Lake Houston Water Safety Map before heading out; it shows boat ramp locations and nearby resources like Lake Patrol and Houston Fire Department stations. Arrive early on busy summer days to snag parking in a designated lot — overnight vehicles may be towed.

Harris County Precinct One oversees this park and manages pavilion reservations. The on-site Deussen Community Center and Senior Center offer additional programs. Lake Patrol and Houston Fire Department water stations serve the Lake Houston area for boater safety.
In 1956, petroleum geologist Alexander Deussen donated this land to Harris County so neighbors could enjoy Lake Houston for generations. Today it delivers on that promise — free of charge — with water access, green space, and community facilities all in one place.
