Schiveley Radio Controlled Flying Field is a Harris County park built for radio-controlled (R/C) aircraft and helicopters. Named after Dick Schiveley, it's your go-to spot in the Houston area to put a plane or helicopter in the air — as long as you're a member of Houston Sport Flyers.
The field is set up specifically for R/C aircraft and helicopters — not drones in general use, not full-size planes. Houston Sport Flyers, the club that runs the field, handles operations and membership. A few park-wide rules keep things safe and pleasant: no alcohol without a permit, no glass containers, no open fires, no fireworks without a permit, no motorized vehicles on grass or trails, and pets must stay leashed outside designated dog park areas. Keep noise at a considerate level and clean up after yourself and your pets.
Start by contacting Houston Sport Flyers to learn about membership — you must join before you can fly at the field. Once you're a member, plan your visits between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Park in designated lots and avoid overnight parking, which can result in towing. Cook only on designated camp stoves or barbecue grills if you bring food. Follow all posted rules so the field stays open and welcoming for everyone.
