Harris County runs all elections. The County Clerk’s office manages voter registration, voting locations, early voting schedules, and mail ballot processing. HarrisVotes.com is the portal. The registration deadline is 30 days before election day.
Public comment is the most underused civic tool. City Council, Commissioners Court, school boards, and state legislative hearings all have public comment periods. Two minutes on the record is two minutes on the record. Officials track constituent contact.
Redistricting reshapes all of this every ten years. After the 2020 census, Texas redrew state house, state senate, and congressional district lines. The next round starts after 2030. Who draws the lines determines whose voice counts where.
