The Repatriate Our Patriots Act (H.R. 717) was introduced by Rep. Vicente Gonzalez of Texas with bipartisan support. It would protect honorably discharged non-citizen veterans from deportation, require DHS to cancel pending removal orders against them, and create a path for already-deported veterans to return as lawful permanent residents. It also offers an expedited route to U.S. citizenship for qualifying veterans. The bill has not yet become law.
Some veterans who served in the U.S. military but are not citizens have been deported or face removal. This bill would change federal rules that decide whether those veterans can stay in or return to the United States.
