Houston Food Bank: Donate – Volunteer – Find Help

Overview

When families in our area face tough times, the Houston Food Bank helps put meals on the table. Every dollar donated provides three meals to people who need them. The food bank serves 18 counties across Southeast Texas through a network of more than 1,600 local partners.

People can help in three main ways. Donors can give money online or set up monthly giving. Every $10 donated provides 30 meals to neighbors facing hunger. Volunteers can sign up as individuals or groups to sort food, pack boxes, or help with special events.

Families needing food assistance can find help through local partner organizations. The food bank connects people with pantries, soup kitchens, and other programs near their homes. These partners serve thousands of individuals each week across the region.

Getting help starts with contacting the Houston Food Bank or visiting their website. Staff can connect families with the closest food pantry or assistance program. People don't need to qualify or prove anything to get started. The network includes churches, community centers, and nonprofit groups that welcome anyone who needs food.

The food bank also runs special programs throughout the year. April brings Volunteer Appreciation Month and the "Food from the Bar" drive. Their Advocacy Council works on policy issues that affect food access in our communities.

Visit the Houston Food Bank website to donate, sign up for volunteer shifts, or find food assistance near your home. Call their helpline to speak directly with staff about programs in your area.
