Commissioner Rodney Ellis and his Harris County policy team work to improve life for every resident in Precinct 1. They research the best public policies from across the country, shape them to fit Houston and Harris County, and bring them to Commissioners Court for a vote. Their focus covers eight big areas: affordable housing, community health, criminal justice, economic equity, environment, infrastructure, transportation, and voting.
The office runs initiatives across eight areas. On housing, it pushes for affordable options. On health, it tackles food access and public health campaigns like Racism is a Public Health Crisis. On criminal justice, it works toward fairer, safer systems. On the economy, it supports small businesses and fights economic inequality. On the environment, it addresses climate action. On infrastructure and transportation, it funds safer streets, sidewalks, bikeways, trails, and parks — and offers alternatives like the RideONE Bike Initiative for under-served neighborhoods. On voting, it works to keep elections fair, free, and safe.
