Alexander Deussen Park sits on 309 acres along the south shore of Lake Houston. Harris County maintains this free, family-friendly green space with something for nearly everyone — boaters, anglers, joggers, picnickers, and seniors alike.
The park packs a lot into 309 acres. You get multiple boat launches and a renovated T-Pier for docking. Fishing access runs along the pier and the shoreline. Five playgrounds are spread across the grounds for kids of all ages. Fourteen pavilions — each with BBQ grills, picnic tables, restrooms, and parking — handle everything from birthday parties to neighborhood cookouts. Four trailheads connect to walking and jogging trails. On-site, you will also find a Senior Center and a community center with programs and facilities.
Pick your activity first. Boaters should review the Lake Houston Water Safety Map before launching — it shows boat ramp locations, Lake Patrol stations, and Houston Fire Department posts. If you want a pavilion for a group gathering, reserve one in advance through the Harris County Precinct One Community Portal. Joggers and walkers can show up any day during park hours and choose from four trailheads. Seniors can explore programs at the Deussen Community Center on-site. Whatever brings you out, arrive within posted hours and leave before closing — overnight vehicles are subject to towing.
Open year-round. Summer hours (March–October): 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Winter hours (November–February): 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Hours can change seasonally, so check before you go.

This park connects to Harris County Precinct One's broader network of parks and community programs. The on-site Senior Center and Deussen Community Center offer additional programming beyond the outdoor amenities. Water safety on Lake Houston is supported by Lake Patrol and Houston Fire Department stations — locations are shown on the Lake Houston Water Safety Map.
Petroleum geologist Alexander Deussen (1882–1959) donated this land to Harris County in 1956. Today it gives Houston-area families a lakeside escape with real outdoor amenities — boat ramps, a fishing pier, shaded pavilions, and miles of trails — all within the county park system.
