Third Ward residents can speak directly to the people who control millions of dollars for neighborhood improvements. The TIRZ 15 board meets monthly and opens every meeting for public comments from anyone who lives here.
TIRZ stands for Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone — a funding system that captures property tax increases and puts that money back into local improvements. TIRZ 15 covers our Third Ward area. The board votes on how to spend these dollars on street repairs, parks, business district upgrades, and infrastructure projects.
Each person gets three minutes to speak about any topic related to neighborhood needs or priorities. No advance sign-up required. Just arrive before the meeting starts and add your name to the speaker list when the clerk calls for public comment. Community members use this time to ask for specific projects, report problems that need attention, or share ideas about what our area needs most.
Past speakers have requested better lighting, asked for pedestrian safety improvements, and pushed for investment in local businesses. The board members listen to these comments before making their spending decisions. Regular attendance from residents helps ensure the money goes toward projects that actually matter to people who live and work in Third Ward.
Check the Third Ward Community Development Corporation website for meeting dates and times. People who show up month after month often see their ideas become real projects in the community.
