Free rides to medical appointments — Medicaid transportation

Harris Health System

Staying Well
If you have Medicaid, you may qualify for free non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) to doctor appointments, dialysis, and other healthcare visits. Call your Medicaid managed care plan or 211 to arrange a ride.

Getting to medical appointments shouldn't stop anyone from getting the care they need. Harris Health System provides free rides to medical visits for people with Medicaid coverage in our area.

This transportation service covers trips to doctor appointments, specialist visits, pharmacy stops, and other medical needs. The rides connect people to all types of healthcare — from routine checkups to emergency follow-ups. Harris Health coordinates with approved transportation companies to make sure patients can get where they need to go.

Medicaid patients can schedule rides by calling Harris Health's transportation line at least 48 hours before their appointment. The service requires advance notice to arrange pickup times and routes. Patients need to have their Medicaid card and appointment information ready when they call.

The transportation covers the greater Harris County area and connects to major medical facilities. Rides are available during regular business hours, Monday through Friday. Same-day emergency transportation may be available in urgent situations.

People can call Harris Health directly to set up their first ride or ask about transportation options during their next medical visit. The staff can explain exactly which areas are covered and help coordinate ongoing transportation needs.
