Women and families facing domestic violence, sexual assault, or trafficking can find immediate help through the Houston Area Women's Center. This organization operates a free, confidential crisis line 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
HAWC serves thousands of people each year who are escaping dangerous situations. The center provides safe shelter, crisis response, and support services. Trained staff help survivors transform their lives and build safety for themselves and their children.
The organization also works to prevent violence before it happens. Staff provide education and training throughout the community. They believe entire neighborhoods can thrive when families are safe from violence.
Anyone needing help can call the crisis line at 1-800-256-0551 or 1-800-256-0661. TTY service is available at (346) 295-8994. All calls are free and private. Crisis counselors answer around the clock, including weekends and holidays.
People can also visit the HAWC website to learn about safety planning, find information about domestic violence, or connect with other resources. The center welcomes volunteers and donations from community members who want to support survivors.
