Parents across Houston can drop their kids at school-based YMCA programs before classes start and pick them up after school ends. These programs run at 29 local schools and give children structured activities, homework help, and play time in familiar settings.
Each day includes four parts that keep kids engaged. Community Time welcomes children with snacks and social-emotional learning activities. Brain Power Hour provides dedicated homework time with certified teachers available for help. Exploration offers hands-on STEM and literacy projects using evidence-based curriculum. Enrichment covers art, music, theater, and service learning projects.
Children also get daily physical activity through the CATCH Kids Club program. Staff use the school's gym, cafeteria, or playground depending on weather and space. The programs aim to reinforce what kids learn in regular classes while building empathy and social skills.
Families need a YMCA membership to register. Parents should gather their child's student ID number, emergency contact information, medical details, and insurance information before starting online registration. Each child needs a signed registration form, liability waiver, and payment arrangement. Parents can search for programs by typing their school name into the YMCA's online filter system.
Parents with questions about special accommodations should call their local YMCA branch before registering. The registration system shows which schools currently offer before and after school programs in the Houston area.
