This bill gives the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) official legal authority to protect pipelines from cyberattacks, terrorism, and other threats. The TSA must create and update security guidelines, inspect critical pipelines, and report to Congress every two years. The TSA must also build a staffing plan focused on cybersecurity skills. The Government Accountability Office will review how the law is carried out.
Pipelines carry fuel and natural gas to homes and businesses. This bill sets rules for who checks if those pipelines are protected from attacks or hacks, which can affect energy supply in Houston.
