The University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) Police Department is here to keep students, faculty, and staff safe every day on campus. They operate with six core values — integrity, honesty, fairness, courage, compassion, and accountability — so you know exactly what to expect when you interact with them.
The UHD Police Department is a full campus law enforcement agency. Their mission is to create a safe environment for everyone at UHD. They hold themselves to the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics and apply the law fairly and equally to all. Their core values are: Integrity (ethical and professional conduct), Honesty (truthful and trustworthy at all times), Fairness (equal treatment for everyone), Courage (meeting every challenge head-on), Compassion (understanding their role as community caretakers), and Accountability (answering to the department, the university, and the public). The department also pursues IACLEA — International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators — accreditation, a national standard that shows a campus police force meets high professional benchmarks.
Get familiar with UHD Police before you ever need them. Save their contact information in your phone. If you see something that feels off on campus, report it — that is exactly what they are there for. Knowing their values can also help you feel more comfortable approaching an officer with a question or concern.

Campus safety connects to student success, employee well-being, and community trust. If you are a UHD student, knowing your rights and resources on campus is part of taking care of yourself. This resource pairs well with other UHD student support services and community programs across Houston that focus on public safety and civic engagement.
Feeling safe matters. When you know your campus police department is guided by clear values and a firm commitment to ethical service, it is easier to focus on learning, teaching, and doing your best work. The UHD Police Department exists specifically to protect and support the UHD community — that includes you.
