The Texas Legislature's official website is your go-to hub for everything happening at the Capitol. Whether you want to track a bill, watch a committee meeting live, or find out who represents you, it is all in one place.
The site covers both the Texas House and Senate. You can look up any bill by number or keyword, see how your legislator voted, check upcoming committee hearings, and watch live video of floor sessions. There are also redistricting tools, a glossary of legislative terms, and even kid-friendly sections that explain how state government works. A plain-language guide called 'How a Bill Becomes Law' walks you through the full process step by step.
Start by finding your legislator — use the 'Who Represents Me?' tool with your address. Then explore the bill search to follow any issue you care about. Set up a personal account (called 'My TLO,' short for Texas Legislature Online) to save bill lists and get alerts when legislation moves or a meeting is scheduled. If you want to go further, the site explains how to sign up as a witness and testify at a House committee hearing.

This resource connects naturally to local Houston and Harris County civic efforts. When City Council or county leaders push for state-level changes — on flooding, transportation, or housing — this is the site where you can watch those proposals move through the Capitol. It also pairs well with any voter registration or civic engagement work happening in your neighborhood.
Knowing what your lawmakers are doing — and how to reach them — is one of the most direct ways to shape your community. This site puts the full picture in your hands, for free.
