By United States Senate -- Apr 13, 2026
Overview
Congress is working on a new law called Senate Bill 4220, or the Veterans Health Administration Novel Therapeutics Preparedness Act. This law helps the Veterans Health Administration, the agency that cares for veterans, get ready to offer new medical treatments. Veterans who served our country deserve access to the best and newest health care available.
New medical treatments are being discovered all the time. These might include new medicines, new procedures, or new ways to help veterans heal. The Veterans Health Administration needs to be prepared to offer these treatments quickly and safely when they become available.
Senate Bill 4220 gives the Veterans Health Administration the tools and guidance it needs to bring new treatments to veterans. This means planning ahead, training staff, and making sure new treatments work well for the veterans who receive them. When our health care system is ready for new treatments, veterans get better care faster.
Right now, Senate Bill 4220 is being reviewed by the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs. This committee will study the law and decide if it should move forward. If it passes, veterans across the country will benefit from faster access to new and better treatments.
