Good first step: Act Texas Children's Hospital Referral Page
Visit texaschildrens.org or call 877-770-5550 to start a referral or admission. For emergencies, no authorization is needed — go right away.
Texas Children's Hospital makes it straightforward for doctors and health professionals to refer, admit, or transfer patients. Whether you use an online form, a PDF, or a direct phone line, you have clear paths to connect your patients with specialists across more than 70 departments.
Texas Children's accepts referrals for more than 70 specialty departments, including cardiology, neurology, oncology, gastroenterology, psychiatry, and many more. The Pavilion for Women covers departments such as Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology, and the Texas Children's Fetal Center. Physicians who need to admit a patient can call a central line or use campus-specific direct admit lines at the Austin, The Woodlands, and West Campus locations. For premature infants or children with serious conditions, the Kangaroo Crew transport team handles transfers and must be requested by a physician. Emergency department visits do not require prior authorization.
If you use Epic or Texas Children's Link, submit referrals directly through those systems. If you do not, use the online or PDF referral forms available on the Texas Children's website for both the main hospital and the Pavilion for Women. For admissions, call 877-770-5550 or use a campus direct admit line during available hours. To arrange a patient transport, contact the Kangaroo Crew through the request process on the Texas Children's website. For insurance questions on out-of-network cases, confirm that both an out-of-network authorization and a single case agreement are in place before non-emergency services begin, and direct patients with coverage questions to their own health plan.

This resource is especially useful for primary care physicians, pediatricians, and OB-GYNs across the greater Houston area who need a reliable specialist partner. It also connects directly to the Pavilion for Women for maternal and reproductive health referrals.
Your patients deserve fast access to the right specialist. Texas Children's has built this referral system to reduce delays and paperwork for busy Houston-area physicians. Whether a child needs cardiology, oncology, behavioral health, or one of dozens of other specialties, there is a clear path to get them seen.
