Restoring Justice brings together a network of Houston-area partners to help people who can't afford an attorney. Community groups, social work schools, counseling centers, churches, and foundations all play a role — from posting bail to providing therapy to training the next generation of social workers.
Restoring Justice partners with organizations across several areas. Community organizing groups like ImagiNoir/BLMHTX Organizing Collective — a Black women-led Houston group — help with bail funds, legal services for Black women, and building social resources. Pure Justice, a grassroots member-driven group, supports bail fund recipients and pushes for criminal justice reform in Harris County. Baylor University's Diana R. Garland School of Social Work and the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work (UH-GCSW) send students into year-long internships with Restoring Justice, giving future social workers hands-on experience. Alethia Family Counseling Center connects clients with skilled therapists. Faith communities — including City Church, Grace Bible Church near the Heights, and the Chapelwood United Methodist Church Foundation — provide spiritual support and mission-driven funding. The Houston Texans Social Justice Fund, part of the NFL's Inspire Change initiative, helps nonprofits offering legal services and youth support across greater Houston. We Raise Foundation (WRF) invests in Christian nonprofits working at the crossroads of poverty, violence, and inequality, with criminal justice as a priority. The Texas Bar Foundation provides funding to strengthen the justice system across Texas.
