Good first step: Act Legacy Community Health Clinic
Call (713) 814-3300 or walk in Monday through Saturday to get tested or ask about free HIV prevention medicine (PrEP).
Legacy Community Health offers free, confidential HIV and STI (sexually transmitted infection) testing at clinics across Greater Houston and Beaumont. Whether you want to know your status, start prevention medication, or get ongoing HIV treatment, Legacy has options for you — including walk-in visits, same-day PrEP, and financial help for those who need it.
Legacy offers a full range of HIV and STI services in one place. Free walk-in HIV testing is available at many locations. PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is a once-daily pill that sharply lowers your risk of getting HIV — Legacy can get you started the same day you walk in, at little or no cost to most people. PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) is a prescription treatment you can take after a possible HIV exposure — it must be started quickly and taken for 28 days. DoxyPEP (doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis) is an antibiotic option that can reduce your risk of bacterial STIs like chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis by about 66% when taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex. For people already living with HIV, Legacy provides comprehensive treatment including primary care, case management, medication support, and social services. Wellness Bar by Legacy also offers Trogarzo, an infusion treatment for HIV patients who have not responded well to other medications.
Walk into a Legacy clinic any day Monday through Saturday for free HIV testing — no appointment needed at participating locations. For PrEP, just walk in and ask: you can meet with a provider, get lab work, and often leave with a prescription the same day. If cost is a concern, ask to speak with an eligibility specialist — they can find assistance programs for you. For PEP after a possible exposure, call right away, since timing matters. For DoxyPEP, call the new-patient or existing-patient numbers below, or visit Legacy Gulfton Dashwood, Legacy Montrose, or Wellness Bar by Legacy. Once you start PrEP, Legacy's Pharmacy PrEP program keeps your refills, lab tests, and follow-up visits coordinated in one easy appointment.
Ongoing — clinics are open Monday through Saturday
Greater Houston and Beaumont — multiple Legacy Community Health clinic locations, including Legacy Gulfton Dashwood, Legacy Montrose, and Wellness Bar by Legacy
These services connect to broader community health resources in Houston, including the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (which helps people living with HIV access care and support), AmistadesHTX (a local initiative working to reduce barriers to HIV care), and Legacy's own case management and social work teams who can link you to financial aid, housing support, and wellness services.
One out of every 200 Houstonians is living with HIV, and rates are still climbing. Testing is the only way to know your status. Knowing opens the door to prevention and treatment — both of which protect you and the people around you. Early action makes a real difference.
