Does your nonprofit or faith-based group want to help feed Houston-area neighbors? You could become a Houston Food Bank partner and distribute free food across an 18-county region. There are three ways to partner — run a pantry, host a mobile truck, or serve prepared meals. If your organization is based in Chambers or Walker County, the Food Bank is especially eager to hear from you right now.
There are three partner types to choose from. Pantry sites are traditional, brick-and-mortar spots where neighbors pick up food — including fresh produce, refrigerated items, and dry goods — on a set schedule. Mobile truck sites host a refrigerated truck through the Food Bank's Fresh Forward program, which focuses on fresh fruits and vegetables. Meal sites (sometimes called soup kitchens) prepare and serve hot meals on-site. All partner types must distribute food at least four times a month and keep those distributions open to the public.
Start by checking the Food Bank's Food Finder Map to see whether your area already has enough partners. If there is a gap, review the full list of qualifications — your group will need 501(c)(3) or qualifying tax-exempt status, space for a delivery truck, a named contact person, and a commitment to food-safety rules. Then register for an upcoming Prospective Partner Interest Meeting. Attendance is required for all applicants. After the meeting, you will receive a link to the partnership application. Applications are reviewed quarterly, following each interest meeting. Before your pantry opens, you will also complete free Civil Rights and Food Safety training provided by the Food Bank.
Prospective Partner Interest Meetings are held quarterly: May 29 (10–11:30 a.m.), August 14 (1–2:30 p.m.), November 13 (1–2:30 p.m.), and February 19 (10–11:30 a.m.). Attending one of these meetings is required before you can submit a partnership application.
