We will show what we know and where it came from.
Super Neighborhood 13 serves Independence Heights, a historic Houston community and first African American municipality in Texas, with monthly resident meetings
Starting April 2026: Precinct 1 CERT, 803 Crosstimbers, Houston, TX 77022. The neighborhood itself sits north of Loop 610 and west of I-45, bounded by Tidwell Road to the north and North Shepherd Drive and Yale Street to the west.
Independence Heights has a remarkable story. In 1915, it became the first African American municipality in Texas. Today, the council carries that legacy of self-determination forward. When you show up, you help decide what your streets, parks, and community spaces look like for years to come.
For over 60 years, Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston has brought people of diverse faith traditions together for dialogue, collaboration, and service to the most vulnerable in our community. IM Houston operates Texas's largest Meals on Wheels program (delivering 1.5 million meals annually to 4,300+ homebound seniors), resettles refugees from 40+ countries, coordinates thousands of disaster and community volunteers through Volunteer Houston, and fosters interfaith understanding through dialogue programs, youth leadership, and cultural exchange.
The Resource Center maps the services, programs, and benefits across the city — and the people behind them.
