MECA (Multicultural Education and Counseling through the Arts) is a community-based nonprofit founded in 1977, committed to the healthy development of under-served and under-represented families through arts and cultural programming, the promotion of academic excellence, support services, and community building. It delivers arts education to Houston-area youth via in-school, out-of-school, and summer programs, and offers free wraparound support services such as tutoring, mentoring, counseling, and college prep. It operates from the historic Dow School and TBH Center campuses.
Tutoring from MECA, a United Way of Greater Houston partner, supporting its 'no pass, no play' policy with help in math, reading, and other courses from community volunteers and university students. Free for registered MECA arts students; a small fee applies for non-enrolled students.
