About this program
Getting there
Three Houston-area locations: BakerRipley Gulfton Sharpstown Campus (6500 Rookin St, Houston 77074), BakerRipley Ripley House Campus (4410 Navigation Blvd, Houston 77011), and BakerRipley Pasadena Campus (720 Fairmont Pkwy, Pasadena 77504). Some resources, including the Verizon Small Business Digital Ready courses, are available online.
Starting or growing a business on your own is hard. This program pairs you with coaches who know the Houston market, connects you to peers in similar situations, and opens doors to funding you may not find on your own — including grants up to $10,000 through the Verizon Small Business Digital Ready partnership. Best of all, it's completely free.
For over 100 years, BakerRipley has been part of Houston's fabric. We run 30+ community centers across the city, reaching over 500,000 neighbors a year — from free tax preparation and English classes to emergency rental assistance and workforce training. Where you live should not determine whether you thrive.
The program has four main offerings. Business Coaching gives you one-on-one time with an expert to build a business plan, review finances, find lenders, or map out a marketing strategy. The Acosta Entrepreneur Academy offers two class tracks: LAUNCH, for people with a clear business idea who are ready to get started, and GROW, for owners who have been operating for at least six months and want to scale up. The Entrepreneur's Table is a specialized track for restaurant owners and food vendors, covering emergency planning, resilience strategies, and healthy business practices. Finally, the Verizon Small Business Digital Ready partnership adds free online courses, one-on-one mentorship, and the chance to apply for grants up to $10,000 once you complete the required coursework.
