Harris County Commissioners Court is being asked to approve payment of billable expenses for the First and Fourteenth Courts of Appeals Districts. Both are Texas appellate courts based in Houston that handle appeals from Harris County and nine nearby counties. Because Harris County is their home county, it shares in the cost of running these state courts. The item (File 26-5201) was introduced July 23, 2026 and is on the August 6, 2026 meeting agenda.
Harris County taxpayers share the cost of running two state appeals courts based in Houston. This vote decides whether the county pays its portion of those court operating expenses.
