Harris County extended six UASI grant-funded positions through December 31, 2026 to continue homeland security work in the Houston area.
On June 11, 2026, Harris County Commissioners Court approved keeping six staff positions funded through December 31, 2026. These jobs are paid for by the FY2025 Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI), a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Houston has qualified for UASI funding since 2003 as a high-risk urban area. The grant covers planning, training, equipment, and staffing to help the region prepare for and respond to terrorism. No county matching funds are required.
Six county staff positions that help the Houston region prepare for terrorism threats are funded by a federal grant. This vote decides if those positions continue through the end of 2026.
