On July 9, 2026, the Harris County Commissioners Court is set to vote on moving 16 staff positions to a federal CDC grant called the Public Health Infrastructure, Workforce, and Data Systems grant (PHIG). Fifteen positions come from the Charity Care program and one from the Harris Cares Embrace Hope grant. The transfer runs from July 25, 2026 through November 30, 2027. Questions can be sent to Cindy.Paz@harriscountytx.gov.
This vote shifts how 16 public health staff are funded. Residents may care because the funding source for these workers changes, which can affect which programs those employees support.
