Harris County Commissioners Court will consider funding lead paint removal in older low-income homes, with services provided at no cost to eligible residents.
Harris County Public Health runs the Lead-Based Paint Abatement Program to make older homes safer, especially for young children. On July 9, 2026, Commissioners Court will consider accepting $400,000 in federal CDBG funds plus a $133,334 local match to find and remove lead hazards in low-income households at no cost to residents. Three program staff positions would also be extended through September 30, 2027. Priority is given to homes with children under age six.
Lead paint in older homes can affect children's health. This funding covers lead hazard work in low-income homes at no cost to residents. Neighbors in older Houston-area homes may qualify.
