This bill would give American Indian and Alaska Native patients more time to notify the Purchased/Referred Care (PRC) program after receiving emergency care outside of an Indian Health Service (IHS) facility. The notification window would expand from 72 hours to 15 days. Elderly and disabled individuals are not covered by this change and keep a 30-day requirement. As of August 2025, the bill was ordered to be reported favorably by the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs.
This federal bill changes how long American Indian and Alaska Native patients have to report emergency medical visits to a government program that helps pay for care received outside of Indian Health Service facilities.
