Harris County Mental Health Diversion Program, funded by a 2022 county initiative, is expanding mobile mental health crisis response across Houston. This means people in mental health crisis are more likely to be met by trained counselors instead of law enforcement. The program also includes crisis stabilization units, peer support services, and warm handoffs to community care. Expansion plans prioritize neighborhoods with the highest rates of mental health-related emergency calls, including many communities in eastern and southern Houston.
