Overview
The Hub House Community Resilience Network creates solar-powered emergency centers in Northeast Houston homes. Local residents volunteer their houses as community hubs. Each hub serves 10-15 nearby families during power outages and disasters. Hub captains are trained neighbors who open their doors when emergencies strike. These homes have backup solar power to keep lights on, charge phones, and provide safe shelter. This network builds on Houston's strength - neighbors helping neighbors. When hurricanes hit or winter storms knock out power, we have places to go in our own neighborhoods. We don't wait for outside help. We take care of each other. Hub houses also host regular community meetings and preparedness training year-round. This keeps neighbors connected before disasters happen. The network covers areas that often lose power longest during storms. These are the same neighborhoods that showed incredible strength during Hurricane Harvey. Now we're building on that spirit with solar technology and organized support. Anyone can join by connecting with their local hub captain or volunteering their home. West Street Recovery trains new captains and provides ongoing support. Together, we're making Northeast Houston more resilient, one house at a time.
