Injectable HIV Prevention and Treatment at Legacy Health

Legacy Community Health in Houston offers injectable HIV prevention (PrEP) and HIV treatment (ART) as an alternative to daily pills. Injectable PrEP is approved for adults and adolescents over 77 lbs who are at risk of getting HIV through sex. Injectable ART is a monthly option for adults living with HIV. Two Houston locations serve patients Monday through Saturday with extended hours.

What is injectable HIV prevention—or PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis)? This is a long-acting bimonthly injectable prevention regimen for adults living without HIV. In clinical studies, it has been proven to work better than daily oral HIV prevention medications in reducing HIV transmission. Injectable PrEP has been approved for adults and adolescents (over 77 lbs or 35 kg) at risk of acquiring HIV through sex. “The reality is that lots of people have trouble remembering to take their daily pill, whether that’s PrEP or ART. This is a long-acting monthly injectable, regimen for adults living with HIV. Like other ART regimens, it works to keep your viral load undetectable.
