Harris County Precinct 2 runs several community programs for residents of East Harris County. Whether your street needs repair, your child's school route needs safer crossings, or you need help with mosquito control, senior activities, veterans benefits, or youth programming — Precinct 2 has a team for that.
There are five main program areas. BetterStreets2Neighborhoods (BS2N) repairs and resurfaces asphalt roads. SaferStreets2Schools (SS2S) adds sidewalks, crosswalks, guardrails, footbridges, and signage near schools with heavy student foot traffic. The Standing Water Attack Team (SWAT) patrols for mosquito breeding grounds, treats problem areas, and offers free educational seminars. The Precinct2gether senior program offers activities, group outings, meals, transportation vouchers, and nursing home outreach across 17 community centers. The Veterans Services Department helps veterans, their dependents, and surviving family members with healthcare, pensions, compensation filings, burial benefits, and more. Youth Programming adds Summer Day Camps and After School Programs with homework help, field trips, and arts activities.
Start by identifying which program fits your need. If your road is rough or damaged, know that Precinct 2 engineers regularly assess roads and group them into repair packages — you don't have to file a formal request, but reporting a concern can help. If you spot standing water creating mosquitoes near your home, you can call to request a SWAT inspection. For seniors, reach out to a local Precinct 2 community center to learn about upcoming activities and bus trips. Veterans and family members can visit the V.V. Ramsey Veterans Center in Channelview for one-on-one assistance. Families with school-age children can contact their school district to ask whether their area has been reviewed under the SS2S program.
