Harris County Parks manages dozens of parks across our region, providing outdoor recreation and community gathering spaces for families. These parks include major destinations like Bear Creek Pioneers Park with 2,154 acres, 26 soccer fields, and 18 baseball diamonds, plus John Paul Landing Park featuring a 176-acre lake and Environmental Education Center. Our county parks offer hiking trails, playgrounds, picnic areas, sports fields, and nature programs. They serve as flood control systems while creating spaces for fitness, youth sports, family gatherings, and environmental learning. These parks matter because they provide free outdoor recreation in a rapidly growing metro area. They support community health through exercise opportunities and connect us to nature. Youth sports leagues use these fields for baseball, soccer, and cricket. Families host birthday parties in pavilions. Scout troops camp overnight. The parks also protect wildlife habitat and manage stormwater during heavy rains. You can visit any Harris County park during daylight hours. Reserve pavilions online for events. Join programs at the John Paul Landing Environmental Education Center, open Tuesday-Saturday 8am-5pm in Cypress. Check the county website for seasonal closures and special events. Many parks offer fishing, boating, and nature trails perfect for weekend family outings.
NOTE: The Playground at Arthur Storey Park will be closed Dec. 2 - Jan. 31 for safety upgrades.
