A team called the Beacon Project created a new way of thinking about politics called 'potentialism.' This idea is based on one simple belief: everyone has something valuable to offer society. After studying Americans for five years, they found that 67% of people are tired of political fighting and want leaders to work together. Potentialism has two main parts: each person should develop their talents and contribute to society, and society should help everyone have a chance to succeed.
This approach brings together ideas from both left and right politics. The left says systems and barriers matter, while the right says personal choices matter. Potentialism says both are true - people make choices, but they need support too.
About 80% of Americans from all political parties agree with this approach. The researchers think potentialism can help improve education, economic policy, criminal justice, healthcare, and community building. Instead of focusing only on test scores, schools could help each student find their unique gifts.
The Beacon Project will continue sharing more details about how potentialism could help America move past political divisions and create a society where everyone can contribute their talents.
