Houston in Action brings together community groups, nonprofits, researchers, and funders to create positive change in Houston. They believe communities can do more when they work together instead of alone. The network focuses on helping communities of color, low-income residents, and young people have more say in the systems that affect their lives.
Houston in Action helps member organizations share strategies, tools, and resources for campaigns that matter to their communities. They work on long-term goals like getting more people involved in local government, making sure all voices are heard, and breaking down barriers that have kept some groups out of civic participation. The organization uses community organizing to help groups advocate for issues they care about.
They also help smaller organizations get funding that might not usually be available to them. Their approach centers on racial justice and equity, recognizing that structural racism has created barriers for many communities. Houston in Action coordinates campaigns, facilitates connections between partners, and works toward policy changes that will create lasting improvements in public systems and services across the Houston region.
