The Lab is a free 12-week program in Houston that helps women of color start their own businesses. Run by the She Can Work Foundation, this program combines online and in-person sessions to help women test and develop their business ideas. Participants use the proven Woodforest Foundry methodology to validate their concepts without paying any fees.
The program provides mentorship from Houston business leaders, networking opportunities, and structured support during the crucial idea-testing phase. Women learn to build confidence and create early success for their ventures. This fills an important gap since women of color often have limited access to startup capital and professional guidance.
The program supports economic empowerment through community-based entrepreneurship and helps create a more diverse business ecosystem. Participants gain tools and independence to launch businesses, create jobs, and strengthen their communities both economically and culturally. The Lab serves as both a pipeline builder and prototype incubator, connecting early-stage ideas with actionable business planning.
