The Cuba Platform organizes special gatherings called convenings that focus on fairness, opportunity, and social justice. These events bring together leaders from around the world to learn from each other and from Cuban communities. Past events have included trips to Cuba where participants learned about building fair societies, reducing inequality, and improving health systems.
For example, in July 2019, they hosted a "Belonging Convening" where leaders learned about creating inclusive communities and expanding compassion. In April 2019, they brought Cuban innovators to Washington DC, including an organic farmer, hip hop musician, and neuroscientist, to show policymakers the diverse talents in Cuba. Other convenings have focused on health equity, racial equity, and comparing different approaches to healthcare and social problems.
The platform connects Atlantic Fellows - a global leadership program - with Cuban academics, community organizers, farmers, and musicians. These exchanges help participants learn new ideas about creating more equitable societies and addressing challenges like economic hardship while still pursuing fairness for all people.
