Despite all the fighting we see in politics, Republicans and Democrats actually agree on many important policies. A 2022 study found 100 policies that most people from both parties support. This article highlights seven key agreements: providing free lunch to low-income students (83% of Republicans and 90% of Democrats agree), replacing lead pipes to make drinking water safe (70% and 92% agreement), allowing abortion when a woman's health is in danger (71% and 86% agreement), requiring background checks for all gun sales (71% and 84% agreement), and funding mental health counseling to help homeless people (81% and 83% agreement).
These policies show that Americans have more common ground than we think. When we focus on what we agree on, we can make real progress and build trust to tackle harder problems later. Many of these policies are already being worked on in different states, proving that bipartisan cooperation is possible.
